I visited the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre at Covent Garden and came away inspired to design and make my own. I had the idea on the train on the way home and made it within a fortnight. I made quite a few before our Art Wave Open House in 2006 and as I sold several then I have remade some and have also added to my collection of original automata. I currently have over eighty in my collection. I now don't sell my automata and I am reluctant to undertake commissions for copies as I have lots of ideas for new ones that I am keen to get on with.
